Information on, and Invitation to, Join the DCCFA Special Return Week Convention

Dear faculty,

Thank you all for your patience as we, like everyone, have attempted to navigate a sea of great change at Dallas College while also dealing with a pandemic and worry about the safety and health of ourselves and our loved ones. We hope that this convention will be the start of all faculty moving forward together to ensure the high standards we expect from ourselves as faculty and from Dallas College as an institution focused on student success and transforming lives.  Please join us for this three-day convention in the spirit we offer it – as an attempt to find the best way forward together.

One important thing I want to share is that this convention is officially part of the 2020-2021 membership year, so all existing members may participate and all active members (FT faculty who paid dues for AY 2020-2021) are eligible to vote. You do NOT need to join the DCCFA for this upcoming new year (2021-2022) to participate in this convention or vote.  We hope you will join for the new year, but it is not required to vote this week.

This convention is a special convention to finish the business of the prior convention. Our annual convention is scheduled for Friday, November 12.  We are still in an emergency period due to the pandemic, so allowances must be made to ensure that all faculty voices can be heard, even if they are unable to attend a convention in person or stream continuously in the virtual meeting.

As such, following up on the May 7, 2021 vote to hold this return week convention with a virtual component, the Council on Friday, August 6, 2021 unanimously passed a motion that considers “presence” at the convention to be met by the act of logging in to vote on the proposed constitutional amendments, proposed bylaws amendments, and proposed resolutions. Therefore, during voting periods, members are not required to be present in the live or virtual meeting to vote if they participate in the voting during the specified times in the Convention agenda using their Microsoft DCCCD accounts.

There are two very important files provided with this message, the first is the convention agenda and the second is the information and instructions file that explains the format of the convention, the voting format, and safeguards.  Please review these files very carefully – we will follow them to ensure a productive convention and to ensure that everyone is able to participate in the voting and have time to consider what they are voting for or against.

Look forward to seeing you on Wednesday at 2:00 pm.

Faculty Council Seeks FT Faculty to Volunteer to Serve on Faculty Evaluation System Task Force

The DCCFA Faculty Council seeks full time Dallas College faculty to serve on a task force charged with reviewing, and recommending revisions to, the Faculty Evaluation System (including, but not limited to, the IAP form).

If you are interested in volunteering to serve on this task force, please complete this brief survey.
Volunteering to serve on the task force does not guarantee that one would be selected to serve.

This survey, which is built with Microsoft Forms, automatically collects respondents’ name and email. Because it is important that a task force include individuals who bring valuable experiences and insights, and bring a balance of representation among Schools, campuses, programs/disciplines, experience as faculty, race/ethnicity and sex/gender, there are a series of questions respondents are asked to answer. If you choose to complete the survey and select “yes” or “maybe” about volunteering to serve on the task force, please answer the questions so that a task force can be sufficiently representative and inclusive.

The survey closes Friday, August 20.

Proposed amendments to the DCCFA Constitution and Bylaws, and proposed resolutions, are now published for members to review, in this linked PDF file.

Thanks to Jennifer Hudson Allen for preparing the PDF file after having received all of the proposals.

This notice having been posted in the Advance Blog, the official publication of the DCCFA, on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, meets the advance notice requirement for all the proposed amendments to the Constitution and the Bylaws to be considered and voted on no earlier than Tuesday, August 17, 2021.
