Results of the Thursday vote on Motions to Amend
- On the motion to amend by strikethrough (deletion) the final sentence of "Proposed Bylaws Amendment ONE: MEMBERSHIP IN THE DCCFA", the membership voted 118 yes and 30 no, so the motion carries.
- On the motion to amend by strikethrough (deletion) of the phrase after recording secretary "by the start of the meeting" and addition of a replacement phrase "no less than one hour prior to the opening of a general or special convention" of "Proposed Bylaws Amendment THREE: TO UPDATE ARTICLE XIII TO ALLOW FOR PROXY VOTING IN GENERAL AND SPECIAL CONVENTION", the membership voted 120 yes and 31 no, so the motion carries.
- On the motion to amend by addition of "Vice-Chancellor" and "Provost" to "Proposed Resolution NINE: ADDRESSING FACULTY COUNCIL MEETINGS WITH THE CHANCELLOR", the membership voted 123 yes and 25 no, so the motion carries.
- On the motion to amend by addition of "WHEREAS, many married faculty, who were previously working at separate campuses or under separate deans, in accordance with the above-mentioned policy, now find themselves in violation of the supervisory clause due to the consolidation to one college," to "Proposed Resolution ELEVEN: TO END MARRIAGE DISCRIMINATION IN EMPLOYMENT AND SUPERVISION", the membership voted 122 yes and 17 no, so the motion carries.
We are happy that the ballot system with emailing it out early worked well today and hope you found it easy to use. However, we uncovered some setting issues in today’s ballot. We have identified the cause and are confident that the audit team was able to confirm the results shown above accurately despite these issues because their audit involved verifying each name was on the master membership list and only one vote per member was included. We have also taken steps to ensure that Friday’s ballot, which is the most important one, will have those settings corrected so no individuals could vote more than once accidentally.
Final Votes on Friday
On Friday we will resume at 3:30 p.m. to conduct our last and most important order of business, voting to accept or reject the proposed constitutional amendments, bylaws amendments and resolutions. The ballots will be emailed to you early just like they were today, so please remember to watch for them to come from Sheila Hyde and wait to vote until they become active when Tommy Thompson, Convention Chair, calls for the vote. If you would like to review prior to the vote beginning, you can review this sample ballot to see the final versions of everything you are voting about tomorrow.
A few reminders in case you missed parts of Wednesday session:
- Proposed Bylaws Amendment EIGHT and Proposed Resolution ONE were removed because they were ruled out of order by the chair and the sponsors chose not to submit a motion to amend from the floor.
- Proposed Resolution THREE was removed before the convention because the sponsor is no longer an active member.
- Proposed Resolution EIGHT was withdrawn by the author before it was seconded, so a vote to withdraw was not required.
