The Dallas County Joint Election resulted in Phil Ritter winning District 2 and Paul Mayer winning District 3. However, because no candidate secured a 51% majority in District 1, Dallas College will require a run-off election between Lynn Davenport and Catalina E. Garcia. Here are some quick “gee-whiz” preliminary findings from the shared unofficial results:
- Trustee Gretchen Williams failed to place in the run-off election by only 33 votes.
- Election turnout was less than 7% of eligible voters. (Typically, even fewer voters will most likely participate in the run-off election.)
- The two DCFA Candidate Forums had a combined 415 views.
The run-off election will be on Saturday, June 18, with early voting projected to run from Monday, June 6, through Tuesday, June 14. (NOTE: there are also upcoming Democratic and Republican primary run-off elections set for Tuesday, May 24, with early voting beginning in one week on Monday, May 16.)
As previously agreed, the El Centro Campus Faculty Association will host a virtual candidate debate via Webex a few days before early voting begins. Cindy Brown will serve as moderator for this live event.
